WOMENEQUITY - European women at work: towards equality

Project Number: 101091097

Dates: 01 December 2022 – 31 May 2024

Project Summary

WOMENEQUITY was born out of the need to raise awareness of the barriers that women face in accessing the labour market with the aim of improving this situation. To this end, it does so through cooperation between municipalities and entities from different European countries, understanding that this is a reality that goes beyond local and national borders. Likewise, both the mobility of workers allowed by the European Union and the benefits in terms of mobility that teleworking has brought about, highlight the need to address this issue from a European perspective since, as citizens of any country could work in another member state, the objectives of this project would not be understood if they had an application and vision limited by the territorial borders of a municipality. The project will be carried out in six different EU countries, giving the opportunity to local authorities, civilorganisations, employers and women, especially young people, over
55s and migrants, to address the issue of access to the labour market through gender mainstreaming in the EU, comparing the situations of the territories involved, but also through a point of view that goes beyond a local vision, thus giving the concrete opportunity to experience European citizenship. The objective of WOMENEQUITY, as already mentioned, is to make visible and improve the conditions of access to the labour market for women, specifically in the municipalities and geographical areas directly involved by this project. This objective will be achieved through three phases and seven events: needs analysis; drafting of the Guide of Recommendations and good Practices; and dissemination of results and sustainability of the project.

On April 22-23, 2024, the WomenEquity project (#101091097) hosted a successful two-day event in Thessaloniki, Greece, bringing together 30 participants from across Europe. Representatives from Spain, Greece, Belgium, Portugal, Slovenia, Italy, and Romania joined forces to address key issues related to women’s rights, access to the labor market, and achieving workplace equity.

The event, held at the Social Innovation and Cohesion Institute, fostered collaboration among participants as they shared initiatives, brainstormed solutions, and built strategies with a focus on gender inclusion. Day 1 featured insightful sessions, including the presentation of the WomenEquity project, team-building activities, and discussions on challenges and best practices across sectors like technology, politics, and education. Participants also engaged in breakout group discussions to refine their ideas and network.

On Day 2, the attendees were welcomed by the project partners and had the opportunity to visit local women entrepreneurs in Thessaloniki. These study visits offered a real-world perspective on the successes and challenges faced by women in business. The event concluded with a Closing Ceremony, where participants were acknowledged for their contributions and optimism for future collaboration was shared. This gathering was a vital step in promoting gender equity in Europe, empowering women from various backgrounds and professions to shape a more inclusive and equitable future.
